Corrections
This policy was written before anything was published here, while there was nothing to retract. That is deliberate. A corrections policy drafted after a mistake is damage control; drafted before one, it is a commitment.
What we correct
Any factual error, however small: a wrong date, a misattributed headline, a miscounted outlet, a misidentified owner, a broken citation. Errors of framing and emphasis are corrected on the same terms as errors of fact.
How corrections appear
- Corrections are added to the entry itself, at the top, not appended quietly at the bottom.
- The original text remains visible and struck through. Nothing is silently rewritten — this site exists to document silent rewriting.
- Every correction carries the date it was made and what was wrong.
- Corrections are listed on this page permanently, in full, oldest kept alongside newest.
How quickly
This site is a small operation. A reported error will be reviewed within 48 hours and researched further from there.
Where the error is ours, it is not deleted. It is retracted, and the retraction is posted on the front page as well as on the entry where the error was recorded.
Why this matters here
This is one of the main reasons the site exists. When new evidence appears, not every outlet reports it — and an outlet that pointed readers in the wrong direction often prints no retraction and claims no ownership of information that was misleading or outright wrong.
It is also why this site writes no articles of its own. Everything here was published elsewhere. News should be seen from every side, and no single outlet should tell you what to think. You should be able to read what all of them agree on, what only one of them says, and what none of them mention — and decide for yourself what is going on.
Fear is profitable, and it is sold to us daily. Understanding what is actually there makes the people profiting from it a little less rich.
Reporting an error
Everything sent here is read. Not everything gets a reply: this is a small operation, and an automated acknowledgement to every message would be worth nothing to anyone. You will hear back when what you sent is going to change something on the site — that is, when it comes with sources that stand up.
What is corrected here, and what is not
Nothing on this site is written here. There are no articles, no editorials and no opinion pieces from this project; every word quoted was published by somebody else. If an outlet printed something misleading and it is reproduced here in full, the place to take that up is the outlet that printed it.
What this site can correct is its own work: a miscounted outlet, a misattributed headline, a broken citation, a comparison that does not hold. And where an outlet’s reporting is shown to be factually wrong by a source that can be checked, a note is appended to the entry with a link to that source — whether or not the outlet ever acknowledges it.
The challenge, and the challenger
The substance of a challenge is published. When a correction is made, the entry carries what was wrong and the source that establishes it, so a reader can see the evidence rather than take the correction on trust.
The person who raised it is not. No names, no contact details, no private information about anyone who writes in. Opinions are not published either, from correspondents or from anybody here — a disagreement about framing is not a correction, and this site does not run comment.
The distinction is deliberate: the evidence belongs on the page, the individual does not.
Retraction
Where an entry's central finding does not hold, the entry is retracted rather than amended. A retracted entry stays online, marked as retracted, with an explanation of what was wrong and how it happened. It is never deleted.
The standard we hold ourselves to
This site documents outlets that report something, later report otherwise, and never tell readers about the first. That failure is the central thing it measures.
An error here that is quietly fixed would be the same failure. If you find one, it is worth more to this project than any single entry — and it will be published in full.
