A Piper PA-34 aircraft with four people on board departed Great Harbour Cay in the Bahamas on September 7, 2026, en route to Opa-Locka/Miami-area airports and lost contact with air traffic control. The U.S. Coast Guard and Bahamian authorities launched a search approximately 13–15 miles off Andros Island, where the plane is believed to have crashed into the ocean. The four occupants were identified as pilot Mario Lamar Sr., 80, his wife Lili Lamar, 79, and two grandchildren: Sofia/Sofi Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22. Inclement weather postponed initial search efforts.
